In yet another case out of California, a man who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin Lymphoma was awarded $80.2 million after using Roundup for over 30 years to treat his property.

As recently as May 2020, Bayer has reached verbal agreements to resolve a significant portion of lawsuits filed against it which the company inherited following its acquisition of Monsanto in 2018. While an estimated 125,000 cancer-related lawsuits have been filed in the United States, this agreement aims to settle between 50,000 and 85,000 of them. The deal includes a $10 billion payout by Bayer in an attempt to end the expensive legal battle. While Bayer has refused to comment on settlements, payouts to individuals can be expected to amount between a few million to a couple thousand.

What Can I Expect as a Settlement if I Have a Claim?

When dealing with product liability cases, the result of the first case generally sets the bar for negotiations for future cases. With regard to Roundup cases, the first set of claims resulted in huge verdicts for the injured parties. While this doesn’t guarantee that every individual harmed by Roundup will receive multi-million-dollar settlements, it does mean that in terms of a settlement package, those with valid claims will likely have higher awards.

With the pending case numbers sitting over 18,000, it is likely that a tiered recovery system will be implemented.
